Anđelka Bego-Šimunić (born October 23, 1941 – died February 9, 2022) was a talented composer from Bosnia and Herzegovina. She was known for her beautiful music and for teaching at the Sarajevo Music Academy in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Her Musical Journey
Anđelka Bego-Šimunić loved music from a young age. She studied composition at the Sarajevo Music Academy. Her teachers were famous composers Ivan Brkanović and Miroslav Špiler. She worked very hard and earned her master's degree in 1973.
Teaching and Leading
After finishing her studies, Anđelka started teaching music theory. She taught at a secondary music school in Sarajevo. In 1975, she returned to the Sarajevo Music Academy, this time as a teacher. She later became a full professor, helping many young musicians learn and grow. One of her students was Igor Karaca.
From 1986 to 1992, Anđelka was the president of the Bosnian composers’ association. This was a very important role! She also helped organize a special event called the Days of Musical Creation festival. This festival celebrated new music and helped composers share their work.
