What is Wikipedia?
Wikipedia is a huge online encyclopedia that anyone can read for free. It's also special because people from all over the world can help write and edit its articles. Think of it as a massive library of knowledge, available on the internet.
The Armenian Wikipedia's Journey
The Armenian Wikipedia began its journey in 2003. Since then, it has grown a lot! By October 2015, it was the 38th largest Wikipedia out of many different language versions. This means it had more articles than most other language Wikipedias.
In July 2013, the Armenian Wikipedia had over 47,000 articles. Later that year, on December 2, 2013, it reached an even bigger milestone: it had 100,000 articles! This shows how many people have worked together to share knowledge in Armenian.
Who Creates the Armenian Wikipedia?
Just like other Wikipedias, the Armenian Wikipedia is built by its community. This means regular people who know a lot about different topics, or who are good at writing, volunteer their time to create and improve articles. They make sure the information is correct and easy to understand for everyone.
