Arnott's Shapes are super popular savoury biscuits. They are made by a company called Arnott's in Australia and New Zealand. Imagine this: over 53 million packets of Shapes are eaten in Australia every single year!

What Are Arnott's Shapes?

Shapes are crunchy biscuits that come in many different flavours. They are known for having lots of flavour baked right onto them. The name "Shapes" comes from the fact that each flavour often has its own unique biscuit shape.

The History of Shapes

Shapes first came out in 1954. They were created in Victoria, Australia, by a company called Brockhoff Biscuits. The very first flavour was called Savoury. Soon after, other yummy flavours like Barbecue, Chicken Crimpy, and Onion were added.

How Shapes Got Their Shape

When Shapes were first made, they looked like potato chips. But the bakers found it hard to cut them this way. It also wasted a lot of dough. So, in 1974, they changed to the flat biscuit shape we know today. Arnott's likes to say that Shapes are "baked, not fried." This means they are cooked in an oven, which is a less oily way to make them.

Changes to Packaging Size

Over the years, the size of Shapes packets has changed a few times. In the late 1900s, the main flavours in boxes went from 250 grams down to 200 grams. Then, in 2011, the packets became even smaller, usually between 175 and 185 grams.

The Big Recipe Change of 2016

In April 2016, Arnott's tried something new. They changed the recipe for their main Shapes flavours. The flavouring was baked into the biscuit instead of being a seasoning on top. Many people did not like this new taste. There was a lot of feedback from customers who missed the old recipe.

Because of this, Arnott's decided to bring back the original flavours. By September 2016, they restored the original Pizza and Barbecue recipes. These were sold under a special "Originals" range. The Chicken Crimpy recipe stayed the same as the new version. Today, almost all the original recipes from before 2016 have been brought back. However, Nacho Cheese and Chicken Drumstick flavours are no longer made.

New Flavours: Aussie Legends

In 2019, Arnott's introduced an exciting new range called "Aussie Legends." These Shapes flavours were inspired by popular Australian foods. Some of these fun flavours included Sausage Sizzle, Meat Pie, and Lamb & Rosemary.
