Arnott's Shapes are super popular savoury biscuits. They are made by Arnott's in Australia and New Zealand. People in Australia eat over 53 million packets every year!

What are Arnott's Shapes?

Shapes are a type of baked biscuit. They are known for their strong flavours. Arnott's says Shapes are "baked, not fried." This means they are cooked in an oven. Baking is often seen as a healthier way to cook. However, Shapes still have a fair amount of fat and salt.

How Shapes Began

Shapes first came out in 1954. They were created in Victoria, Australia. A company called Brockhoff Biscuits made them. The first flavour was "Savoury." Soon after, "Barbecue," "Chicken Crimpy," and "Onion" flavours joined in.

Shapes were first shaped like potato chips. But bakers found them hard to cut. They also wasted a lot of dough. So, in 1974, they changed to the flat biscuits we know today. The name "Shapes" comes from the different biscuit shapes. Each shape matches a flavour.

Packaging Changes

Arnott's Shapes are sold in different ways. You can find them in multi-pack bags or boxes. In the late 1900s, Arnott's made the box size smaller. They went from 250 grams to 200 grams. Then, in 2011, they made them even smaller. Boxes became 175–185 grams.

The Big Recipe Change

In April 2016, Arnott's changed the recipe for Shapes. They started baking the flavour into the biscuit. Before, the flavour was mostly a seasoning on top. Many customers were not happy about this change. They missed the old taste.

Because of the complaints, Arnott's listened. In September, they brought back the original Pizza and Barbecue recipes. These were sold under the name "Originals." The Chicken Crimpy recipe stayed the same. Today, most of the old recipes are back. Only Nacho Cheese and Chicken Drumstick flavours are different. Chicken Drumstick was even stopped completely.

Aussie Legends Shapes

In 2019, Arnott's launched a new range. They called it "Aussie Legends." These new Shapes flavours are based on popular Australian foods. Some of these fun flavours include Sausage Sizzle, Meat Pie, and Lamb & Rosemary.
