Arrowsmith facts for kids
An arrowsmith is a skilled person whose job is to make the metal tips, or heads, for arrows. Think of them as specialized blacksmiths who focus only on arrowheads. This job was very important a long time ago, especially during medieval times, when bows and arrows were common weapons and hunting tools.
Today, you won't find many arrowsmiths. Most people who do this work now are often involved in traditional crafts or make arrows for sports like archery.

The History of Archery
The idea of using a bow and arrow is incredibly old! People first started using bows and arrows around 20,000 BC. That's a really long time ago! Back then, they didn't use them every day, but when they did, it was mostly for hunting animals for food.
Bows and Arrows in Ancient Civilizations
The ancient Egyptians were among the first people to use bows and arrows regularly, from about 4,000 BC to 2,000 BC. They used them for hunting and in battles. Many other ancient cultures, like the Romans, Greeks, and various Asian empires, also had skilled archers.
Why Bows Became Less Popular
Over time, the popularity of bows and arrows began to decrease around the world. This happened mainly after the invention of gunpowder and then the cannon. Gunpowder was first invented in China around the 3rd century AD (which is about 200 AD). This new technology quickly spread across Eurasia, leading to the development of firearms. Guns and cannons were powerful new weapons that could shoot farther and with more force than bows, making them very important in warfare. Because of this, the need for arrowsmiths and large groups of archers slowly faded away.
