Ashland New Plays Festival facts for kids
The Ashland New Plays Festival (ANPF) is a special group in Ashland, Oregon. It helps writers create new plays by having them read out loud to an audience. This group started in 1992 and is run by volunteers.
The main event of ANPF is a competition for playwrights (people who write plays). It ends with four new plays being read aloud, chosen from hundreds of entries. Professional actors from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and local actors take part in these readings.
In 2011, more than 200 playwrights took part in the festival by sending in their plays or attending the event.
When the festival first started, it worked with local theater groups. Over the years, it grew and began to attract participants from all over the United States. In 2009, a group of volunteers who had been involved with the festival before took over running it.
Who Takes Part in the Festival?
Many talented playwrights have worked with ANPF over the years. Some of these include David Rambo, Jamie Pachino, Lisa Loomer, and E. M. Lewis. You can find a list of award winners on the ANPF website, going all the way back to 1993. The website also shares information about the playwrights.
