Starting in Broadcasting

Asmah Laili started her career in 1959 at the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation. She was mentored by Zahrah Za'ba, who was the first female leader at the company. Asmah quickly became a familiar voice on the radio, hosting programs on Warna 94.2FM. She also worked as an executive producer for the Malay radio station in Singapore. This meant she helped create and manage many radio shows.

A Pioneer in Television

Asmah Laili made history as the first woman to work as a television presenter in Singapore. She was a true pioneer! She also helped guide and teach many young women who wanted to become broadcasters, showing them the ropes. Asmah retired from broadcasting in 1997 after a long and successful career. In 2003, her life and work were featured in a special TV show called Ikon wanita, which highlighted important Muslim women in Singapore.

Becoming a Celebrity Chef

Besides her broadcasting work, Asmah Laili was also a very talented chef. She was lovingly known as "Mami Asmah" by her fans. Asmah Laili got married in 1967 and had two children. She lived in the Bedok area of Singapore. She passed away in 2019 at Changi General Hospital when she was 78 years old. She had been battling a lung disease.
