Astrid Fischel Volio (born March 26, 1954) is a well-known historian and politician from Costa Rica. She has held important roles in her country's government.

Astrid Fischel Volio: Her Life and Work

Astrid Fischel Volio studied at the University of Costa Rica and the University of Southampton in England. She later became a Professor at the History and Geography School of the University of Costa Rica. She taught there from 1984 to 1998.

From 1998 to 2002, Astrid Fischel Volio served as the First Vice President of Costa Rica. At the same time, she was also the Minister of Culture. This meant she helped lead the country and looked after its cultural programs.

In 2002, she was chosen to be the Minister of Education. However, she stepped down from this role on June 3, 2003. This happened during a time when teachers were on strike because of issues with their pay.

Astrid Fischel Volio's Books

Astrid Fischel Volio is also a writer. She has written several important books about Costa Rican history and society. Here are some of her well-known works:
