Attica Woodson Scott (born January 30, 1972) is an American politician. She served as a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives for the 41st district from 2017 to 2023. This means she helped make laws for the state of Kentucky.

Early Life and Education
Attica Scott was born in Louisville, Kentucky. She went to duPont Manual High School. Later, she studied political science at Knoxville College. She also earned a master's degree in communications from the University of Tennessee.
Her Career in Public Service
Working for the Community
Before becoming a politician, Attica Scott was a community organizer for 15 years. A community organizer helps people in a neighborhood work together. She worked for Kentucky Jobs with Justice. In this role, she focused on helping people with their rights, healthcare, and making things fair for everyone.
Serving on the Louisville Metro Council
In 2011, Attica Scott was chosen to join the Louisville Metro Council. This council helps run the city of Louisville. She took the place of another member who had been removed from the council. In 2012, she won a special election to keep her seat. However, she did not win her reelection in 2014.
Representing Kentucky in the State House
In 2016, Attica Scott ran for a seat in the Kentucky House of Representatives. She won the primary election, which is like an early election to pick candidates. She then ran unopposed in the main election on November 8, 2016. This means no one ran against her.
When she won, she became the first African American woman to serve in the Kentucky General Assembly since the year 2000. In the Kentucky House, she worked on important groups called committees. These committees focused on topics like elections, laws, natural resources, and education.
In 2020, Attica Scott supported a bill to improve healthcare for new mothers. She also sponsored a bill that would remove taxes on baby products. These products included things like diapers, wipes, and baby bottles.
Running for U.S. Congress
On July 7, 2021, Attica Scott announced she would run for U.S. representative. This position helps make laws for the entire country. She wanted to represent Kentucky's 3rd congressional district.
Standing Up for Justice
In 2020, Attica Scott took part in protests in Louisville. These protests happened after the shooting of Breonna Taylor. During these events, she spoke out about how police treated protesters. She said that she and her daughter, along with others, were sprayed with tear gas without warning.
She also spoke about the need for police to be held responsible. On September 24, 2020, Attica Scott was arrested during a protest. She spent the night in jail. Later, the charges against her were dropped. In 2021, she filed a lawsuit against the Louisville Metro Police Department. She said her arrest went against her rights.
Personal Life
Attica Scott is a single mother. She has two children. One of her children was also at a protest with her in 2020. All charges against her child were also cleared.
