The Story of Auberge Le Saint-Gabriel

From House to Historic Inn
The building was first built in 1688. A French soldier named Étienne Truteau built it as his home. He lived there until he passed away in 1712.
Later, in 1754, a new owner named Richard Dulong changed the house. He turned it into a proper inn. This made it one of the very first inns in North America! It also received the first permit to serve drinks under British rule. The inn quickly became a popular place for travelers to rest during their long journeys.
A New Life for the Old Inn
As time passed, more inns opened, and Auberge Le Saint-Gabriel became less popular. In the 1800s, it was even turned back into a regular house.
But in 1914, Ludger Truteau brought the building back to life as an inn. He renamed it Auberge Saint-Gabriel. Later, in 1987, the Bolay family bought the inn. They continued to welcome travelers.
Today, the inn is owned by Marc Bolay, Garou, and Guy Laliberté. They have made it even more special. The inside has thick stone walls and wooden floors. Beautiful iron chandeliers hang from the ceilings. They also added a delicious French restaurant.
