Long ago, in 1875, a post office opened in this area. It was named Austin's Springs. This post office was an important place for people to send and receive letters. It helped connect the community to other places. The post office stayed open for about 25 years. It finally closed its doors in 1900.
How Austin Springs Got Its Name
The community of Austin Springs was named after some important people. It was named for one or both of the Austin brothers. These brothers started a hotel in the area. Their hotel was built near a special place called a mineral spa. A mineral spa is a natural spring where water comes out of the ground. This water often has minerals in it that people believed were good for their health. People would visit these spas to relax and enjoy the water.
