The Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) is a big yearly competition for beers. It started in 1992.
This event is run by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV). The judges taste the beers at the Melbourne Showgrounds. The winners are announced at a special dinner in Melbourne, Australia. This dinner happens during a fun event called Good Beer Week.
The awards were first called the ‘National Beer and Brewing Awards’. They were a team effort between RASV and the University of Ballarat. In 1995, the competition became international. Beers from many countries, like New Zealand, Canada, and Malta, joined in. That year, a beer from Malta called Cisk Export Premium Lager was the first international winner. It won the top prize, the Grand Champion Beer award.
Today, the AIBA is one of the largest beer competitions in the world. In 2013, over 1,480 different beers entered. These beers came from 270 breweries in 35 different countries.
To enter the competition, breweries pay a fee. The judges taste the beers without knowing which brewery made them. This is called a "blind tasting." There are over 75 different classes for trophies. Besides trophies, judges also give out gold, silver, and bronze awards. These awards are given if a beer reaches a certain score, not just for being the best.
Trophy Winners
Each year, the Australian International Beer Awards give out many important trophies. These awards celebrate the best beers and breweries from Australia and around the world.
Some of the main awards include:

- Champion Large Brewery: This award goes to a big brewery that makes excellent beers.

Many different breweries have won these awards over the years. Some winners have included breweries from Germany, the USA, New Zealand, and, of course, Australia. These awards help everyone discover new and exciting beers.
