His Work in Government and Law
In 1999, Avi Ben-Abraham became involved in politics in Israel. He was supported by Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Ben-Abraham then won a spot in the primary elections for the Likud party. This party is a major political group in Israel.
He was aiming for a top position on their list of candidates for the Knesset. The Knesset is like Israel's parliament or main law-making body. Together, they announced a big plan. They wanted to try to clone the first human. Cloning means making an exact copy of a living thing. They planned to try this in a secret country by 2003. The group did try the procedure. However, they later said that their attempt was not successful.
