Avi Ben-Abraham's Work in Politics
Avi Ben-Abraham has also been involved in politics. In 1999, he was supported by Benjamin Netanyahu, who was Israel's Prime Minister. Ben-Abraham then won a spot to be a candidate for the Likud party. The Likud party is a major political group in Israel.
He was chosen to be part of the Likud party's main committee. He also became a senior advisor to Israel's Minister of Justice. This means he gave important advice to the person in charge of justice in Israel.
Ben-Abraham also worked in California, USA. He was a commissioner for a group that checks on judges. This group is called the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation. His job was to interview and evaluate many judges. He even evaluated some judges for the California Supreme Court.
He was chosen for this role by the Governor of California. He also got special security clearance from the FBI. This allowed him to work on sensitive government matters. Chief Justice Malcolm Lucas officially swore him into his position.
Trying to Clone Humans
In 2001, Avi Ben-Abraham worked with two other scientists. These were Panayiotis Zavos, who studies how bodies reproduce, and Severino Antinori, who helps people with fertility issues. They announced a big plan. They wanted to try and clone the first human.
Cloning means making an exact copy of a living thing. They planned to try this by 2003 in a secret country. The group did try the procedure. However, they later said that their attempt was not successful.
