Aviaq Johnston's books have won many important awards. Her novel, Those Who Run in the Sky, won the very first Indigenous Voices Award for English Prose. This award celebrates amazing writing by Indigenous authors.
Those Who Run in the Sky was also a finalist for the Governor General's Award for English-language children's literature in 2017. This is one of Canada's biggest literary awards. It was also recognized as an Honour Book for the Burt Award for First Nations, Inuit and Métis Young Adult Literature.
