Aviaq Johnston facts for kids
Aviaq Johnston, born on October 23, 1992, is a talented writer from the Inuit community in Canada. She grew up in Igloolik and now lives in Iqaluit, which are both in Nunavut. Nunavut is a large territory in northern Canada. Aviaq is known for her exciting books, especially for young people.
Her first book for young adults, Those Who Run in the Sky, was very special. It won the first-ever Indigenous Voices Award for English Prose. This award celebrates amazing writing by Indigenous authors. The book was also considered for the Governor General's Award for English-language children's literature in 2017. It was also a finalist for the Burt Award for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Literature.
Aviaq has also written a children's book called What's My Superpower?. In 2014, she received a Governor General's History Award for her short story "Tarnikuluk". She was even listed as one of the 18 authors to watch in 2018!
