The Avon Valley (Bickton to Christchurch) is a very special natural area. It covers about 1,403.8-hectare (3,469-acre) of land. This area stretches from Christchurch in Dorset all the way to Bickton, which is south of Fordingbridge in Hampshire. It's known as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because of its amazing wildlife and plants.

This valley is also recognized internationally for its importance. It's a Ramsar site, a Special Area of Conservation, and a Special Protection Area. Part of this area, about 159 hectares (390 acres), is called Blashford Lakes. This nature reserve is looked after by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.
