Aydın Boysan (born June 17, 1921 – died January 5, 2018) was a famous Turkish architect and writer. He was known for designing many buildings and for his humorous essays. He also taught architecture and wrote for newspapers.
A Creative Life: Architect and Teacher
Aydın Boysan was born in Istanbul. His father, Esat, was an accountant, and his mother, Nevreste, was a teacher. After finishing Pertevniyal High School, he studied architecture. He went to the Academy of Fine Arts, which is now called Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
He worked as an architect for a very long time, from 1945 to 1999. That's 54 years! During this time, he won many awards for his building designs. He designed buildings with a total area of about 1,500,000 square meters. That's a lot of space!
In 1954, he helped start the Chamber of Architects. This group helps architects in Turkey. He was even the first secretary general of the chamber. Later, he represented the chamber in Istanbul. From 1957 to 1972, he also taught at the Istanbul Technical University.
A Talented Writer
Aydın Boysan was also very well known in Turkish journalism. He started his own printing house, Bas Printing House, in 1984. Through this, he published many books of essays.
His essays were often about his memories and had a lot of humor. He also wrote columns for newspapers. He wrote for Hürriyet newspaper for ten years and for Akşam newspaper for three years. People enjoyed reading his funny and thoughtful articles.
