The Azerbaijan Supercup (also known as Azərbaycan Milli Futbol Superkuboku in Azerbaijani) was a special football competition in Azerbaijan. It usually happened at the start of each new football season. In this cup, the team that won the Azerbaijan Premier League (the top league) played against the team that won the Azerbaijan Cup (another big knockout competition).
The Supercup was first held from 1993 to 1995. After that, it stopped for a long time. It was brought back in 2013, but it hasn't been played since then.
History of the Supercup
The Supercup started in 1993. The team Neftchi Baku has won the Supercup more times than any other team, with two victories.
In 1994, the team Qarabağ automatically received the Supercup. This happened because they won both the Azerbaijan Premier League and the Azerbaijan Cup in the same year. When a team wins both, it's called winning the "Double."
The competition stopped after 1995. Then, in 2013, the Professional Football League of Azerbaijan decided to bring the Azerbaijan Supercup back. Khazar Lankaran was the first team to win the Supercup after it was restarted.
