A Look at Her Life
Early Years and Music Start
Bülent Ersoy was born in 1952 in Malatya, Turkey. She later changed her last name from Erkoç to Ersoy. This new name means "brave lineage."
She started her music journey as a singer of Turkish classical music. Her grandparents also loved classical Turkish music. Bülent took private lessons and then studied at the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory. She quickly became a popular singer and actress.
A Time of Change and Challenges
In the early 1980s, Bülent Ersoy faced some difficulties. Public performances by some artists were not allowed for a while. To continue her career, she moved to West Germany in 1983.
While in West Germany, she kept making music and movies. Later in the 1980s, the rules changed, and she was able to return to Turkey.
New Music and Collaborations
In 2010, Bülent Ersoy announced she was working on a new album. She listened to many songs to pick the best ones. Her album, Aşktan Sabıkalı (Love Convict), came out on October 3, 2011.
This album included a song by Can Tanrıyar called "Alışmak İstemiyorum." It also featured a classic song by Orhan Gencebay called "Bir Teselli Ver." The album's title song, "Aşktan Sabıkalı," was written by Gülşen.
A very popular song on the album was a duet with Tarkan. It was called "Bir Ben Bir Allah Biliyor" (Only I and Allah know). This song was special because it brought together two of Turkey's top artists. A music video for the song was released in December 2011.
Focusing on Classical Music
In 2013, Bülent Ersoy appeared on TRT. She explained that her pop and arabesque songs were mainly for earning money. She said her true passion was classical music, which she studied in college.
Her last album with classical and Alaturka (Turkish style) songs was Alaturka 2000. After that, she focused on other styles for a while.
In late 2015, she talked about making more Alaturka music. She mentioned that Orhan Gencebay had noticed a lack of new Alaturka songs from famous artists. They planned to work together on an album in this style.
In early 2016, Bülent Ersoy said she had listened to many new songs. However, she was not happy with the pop and arabesque songs offered to her. She seemed to be returning to making new music after a break. In March 2019, she released a new song called "Ümit Hırsızı," written by Tarkan.
