Bangalore Venkata Raman (born August 8, 1912 – died December 20, 1998) was a famous Indian astrologer and writer. He wrote many books and articles. He played a big part in making Vedic astrology known and respected across India and the world. With his sons, Niranjan Babu and Sachidananda Babu, he also started a foundation to share knowledge about astrology and Vastu Shastra (an ancient Indian system of architecture).

His Work and Achievements
Leading The Astrological Magazine
B.V. Raman brought back The Astrological Magazine in 1936. His grandfather had run it before. Raman was its editor for more than 62 years! After he passed away, his son, Niranjan Babu, and daughter, Gayatri Devi Vasudev, ran the magazine until 2007. Later, his son Niranjan Babu relaunched it as The Astrological eMagazine.
Sharing Knowledge Worldwide
Raman traveled all over the world to share his knowledge. He spoke at big events like the Astrological Congress in Cambridge, England, and the International Astrology Conference in New York.
He gave many talks in countries like Germany, England, France, Italy, and the United States. He spoke at universities, medical groups, and cultural places. His talks covered different parts of astrology, Hindu astronomy, philosophy, and Indian culture.
Special Awards and Recognition
In 1968, a group called the Akhila Bharateeya Samskrita Sammelana gave him a special degree called Doctor of Literature. In 1976, Kumaon University also gave him an honorary Doctor of Letters degree.
Speaking at the United Nations
In 1970, Raman was the first person to give a lecture about astrology at the United Nations in New York. His talk was called "Relevance of Astrology in Modern Times." It made many people interested in the topic. He strongly believed that astrology was a science.
Founding Astrology Organizations
Raman started the Indian Council Of Astrological Sciences (ICAS) in 1984. This group helps to organize the study and practice of astrology in India. It has branches in many cities like Bangalore and Delhi.
In 1992, while visiting the United States, Raman suggested creating a group to organize the study of Indian astrology there. This led to the founding of the American Council of Vedic Astrology. David Frawley, who led the council for many years, said Raman was a great inspiration. Raman also helped start the British Association of Vedic Astrology in 1998.
His Legacy
Many of Raman's books have been translated into other languages, like Telugu by Mr. K. V. Mallikarjuna Rao. His grandson, Raman Suprajarama, continues his work today as a senior editor for The Astrological eMagazine.
