Bado, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Bado is a small, quiet place located in the southwestern part of Texas County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.

Where is Bado Located?

Bado is easy to find if you're traveling on Missouri Route M. This community sits right along the banks of a pretty waterway called Little Piney Creek. If you're looking at a map, Bado is about nine miles west-southwest of a town called Houston. It's also about nine miles north of another town, Cabool.

A Look at Bado's Past

Bado once had its very own post office! This important building first opened its doors in 1883. It served the community for many years, helping people send and receive letters and packages. The post office stayed open until 1953, when it finally closed.

The name "Bado" has an interesting story. People say that the community got its name because it started during a "bad" time. This might have been a period when things were difficult, perhaps due to tough economic times or other challenges. Even though the times were "bad," the name stuck!

What You Can See Today

Even though Bado is a small community, some of its historic buildings are still standing. If you visit today, you can see the old store and the building that used to be the post office. There's also a unique rock house and another building known as the White House. These buildings help tell the story of Bado's past.
