Bald Prairie, Texas facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Bald Prairie is a small, unincorporated community located in Robertson County, in the U.S. state of Texas. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

A Look Back: The History of Bald Prairie

Bald Prairie was started a long time ago, in 1865. This was right after the American Civil War ended. The people who founded the community gave it its name because of the wide, open grasslands, called prairies, that surrounded the area. These prairies were "bald" because they didn't have many trees.

A few years later, in 1875, a post office was opened in Bald Prairie. This was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years, helping people stay connected. However, in 1950, the post office closed down.
