Discovering Balocco: A Sweet Italian Story
Balocco makes many different kinds of tasty treats. You might know them for their biscuits, or their special holiday cakes like Panettone and Pandoro. They also make yummy wafers. Balocco sends its products to about 30 countries. They even make products for other companies to sell under their own names.
How Balocco Began
The Balocco company began in 1927. It started as a small pastry shop in Fossano, a town in Italy. Francesco Antonio Balocco was the person who founded it.
Growing Bigger and Sweeter
After some years, in 1948, Balocco started making more than just pastries. They began to produce famous Italian cakes like Panettone and Pandoro. They also made special Easter cakes called Colombe Pasquali. Of course, they continued to make biscuits and wafers too.
By 1970, Balocco was making its sweets in a bigger, more industrial way. This meant they could make many more products for people to enjoy.
The Family Continues the Tradition
In the 1990s, the company leadership changed. Aldo Balocco's children, Alessandra and Alberto, took over the family business. They continued the sweet traditions of Balocco.
In 2010, Aldo Balocco received a special honor. The Italian President, Giorgio Napolitano, named him a "Knight of the Order of Labor Merit." This award recognizes people who have done great things in their work.
Later, in 2022, the Balocco family faced some sad times. Aldo Balocco, the son of the founder and the company's Honorary President, passed away at 91 years old. A few months later, his son Alberto Balocco, who was leading the company, also passed away at 56. The family continues to run the company and keep the Balocco legacy alive.
