Bangert, Missouri facts for kids
Bangert is a small place located in Dent County, Missouri, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and people living together, but it doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's managed by the larger county it's part of.
The Story Behind Bangert's Name
Bangert wasn't always called Bangert! For a while, it had a different name: Avery. This name was used early on.
How the Name Changed
The community had a post office named Avery. This post office was open from 1880 until 1886. The name "Avery" came from C. A. Avery, who was an early postmaster there. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office.
Later, in 1902, the name of the community was changed to Bangert. This new name came from a railroad official. A railroad official is someone who works in a leadership role for a train company. The post office, now called Bangert, continued to operate until 1951, when it finally closed.
