The Bangladesh Caterers Association UK, often called BCA, is a special group that helps restaurants owned by people of Bangladeshi heritage in Britain. It started in 1960 to support these restaurants and their owners.
What is the BCA?
The BCA is like a big team for British-Bangladeshi restaurants. It works to make sure their voices are heard. This group helps with business matters and promotes Bangladeshi food.
How it Started
In 1960, a person named Israel Miah helped start this important group. He was its first president. The BCA was created to look after the business and financial interests of restaurant owners.
What the BCA Does
The BCA speaks up for the owners of about 12,000 British-Bangladeshi restaurants and takeaway shops all over the UK. It also plans many events to share Bangladeshi food with people in Great Britain and Europe.
In 2004, the BCA asked the government to make it easier for people from Bangladesh to get work permits in the UK. This was for jobs in ethnic restaurants that needed more staff.
Later, in 2014, the BCA created a special group with members from different political parties in Parliament. This group works to talk to the British Government about issues facing the curry industry. Many Members of Parliament (MPs) supported this effort.
