The Bangladesh Caterers Association UK, often called BCA, is like a big club or a main group for restaurants owned by people of Bangladeshi heritage in Britain. It started in 1960 to help and speak for all these restaurants and their owners.
What is the BCA?
The Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA) was founded in 1960 by Israel Miah. It works to support the many British Bangladeshi restaurants and takeaways across the UK. The BCA helps these businesses with their needs and promotes Bangladeshi food.
Helping Restaurants and Food
The BCA represents the interests of around 12,000 British Bangladeshi restaurants. This means they speak up for these businesses on important topics. They also organize events to show off Bangladeshi food in the UK and even in Europe.
Working with the Government
The BCA sometimes talks with the British Government to help the curry industry. For example, in 2004, they asked for it to be easier for people from Bangladesh to get work permits for restaurant jobs in the UK. This would help fill job openings.
In 2014, the BCA created a special group in Parliament. This group included Members of Parliament (MPs) from different political parties. Their goal was to discuss important issues for the curry industry with the government. Many MPs supported this idea.
