History of the Barker House

The story of the Barker House began in 1881. A man named Charles Barker bought a building called Pine Cottage. Mr. Barker was a manager and a schoolteacher at the Manitou House. He decided to make Pine Cottage much bigger.

He added new parts to the building. This expansion turned Pine Cottage into the "Barker House." For many years, it served as a hotel. Visitors could stay there when they came to Manitou Springs.

Today, the Barker House is no longer a hotel. It has been changed into a private apartment building. There are 48 different homes inside. The building still stands at 819 Manitou Avenue. It remains an important part of Manitou Springs' history.
