A sonnet is a poem that has 14 lines. It usually follows a specific rhyme scheme. Sonnets often explore themes of love, beauty, or time. They are a very old and popular form of poetry.
Fidessa and Other Works
One of Griffin's sonnets from Fidessa became quite famous. It begins with the line ‘Venus and yong Adonis sitting by her.’ This poem was later included in another well-known collection. That collection was called The Passionate Pilgrime, published in 1599.
It is also thought that Griffin might have written some Latin verses. These verses were read for Queen Elizabeth I in August 1572. This happened when the Queen visited Kenilworth Castle. She was a guest of the Earl of Leicester at the time.
