The land where this church stands has a long and interesting past. People have been building important structures here since the 8th and 9th centuries. Before the church, there was a Moorish mosque on this very spot. The church was built right on top of the mosque's remains.
Architectural Styles and Features
The Basílica de Santa María de la Asunción shows off different building styles. Its main front part, called the facade, is a mix of Gothic and Plateresque styles.
