Batson is a small community in Hardin County, Texas, United States. It is not an official city but a place where people live together. Batson is located along State Highway 105. It is also part of the larger Beaumont–Port Arthur area.

The Batson family first settled this area before the year 1840. For many years, it was a quiet farming community.
The Oil Boom of 1903
Everything changed in October 1903. A large oilfield was discovered just north of Batson. This discovery brought a huge rush of people to the area.
Batson's Population Growth
Suddenly, Batson became a very busy place. The population grew quickly to about 10,000 residents. People came hoping to find work and make money from the oil.
Oil Production Slows Down
By the mid-1920s, the amount of oil being produced started to decrease. This meant fewer jobs and less money for the town. As a result, many people moved away. The population dropped significantly to about 600 residents.
Another Oil Discovery
In March 1935, more oil was found in the area. This new discovery helped the town's population grow a little bit again. However, over the next several decades, the population slowly declined once more.
