Bear's Retreat is a very old and special house located in Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania. It's known as a landmark mainly because of its age and unique history.

This house is still a private home today. The oldest part of the house, made of logs, was built around 1794 by Jacob Bare. People believe he was an immigrant from Germany. He built the log section three stories high, using large, heavy logs. This was a common building style in his home country.

Later, in 1840, a new section was added to the house. This part is made of red bricks. These bricks were actually made right on the property! The builders used the natural clay found there. You can still see the remains of an old outdoor kitchen on the property.

Because of its historical importance, Bear's Retreat was officially named a Historic Landmark in 1983 by the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation. You can find this historic home at 253 Inglefield Drive.
