Becky Han is a talented singer and songwriter from Canada. She is Inuk, which means she is an Indigenous person from the Arctic. Becky is known for writing and singing her own acoustic songs in Inuktitut, her native language.

Becky Han's Life and Music Journey
Becky Han grew up in a place called Arctic Bay, in Nunavut, Canada. When she moved from Nunavut to Brandon, Manitoba, she started sharing videos of her music online. This was a way to keep sharing her songs with her parents. Soon, many people online started watching and loving her music!
Why Becky Sings in Inuktitut
Becky writes and sings in Inuktitut for two main reasons. First, she wants to help keep her language alive. Singing in Inuktitut helps more people hear and learn it. Second, it helps her feel connected to her home and the community she grew up in. Becky has built her music career while also being a stay-at-home mom.
Winning Songwriting Contests
Becky Han is a multiple award-winner! In 2016, she won both first and second place in the Qilaut Inuktut children's songwriting contest. This contest is run by the Nunavut Department of Culture and Heritage.
Her Award-Winning Songs
One of her songs, "786", won first place. Another song, "Qaariaq", won second place. Becky wrote both of these songs with her sister, Tracy May. In 2019, Becky and Tracy's song "6-muaqpat" won second place in the same Qilaut contest. Their song "Piqannarijaq" also placed fifth that year. Becky had also placed eighth in the 2015 contest with a song she wrote with Melissa Reid.
Opening for a Famous Artist
In March 2017, Becky Han had a big opportunity. She opened a show for the famous artist Tanya Tagaq in Winnipeg. Tanya Tagaq is a well-known Inuit throat singer. Later in 2017, Tanya Tagaq played Becky's song "Guutiga" on a BBC radio show. It was one of her 15 favorite songs!
Featured in Magazines
Also in 2017, Becky's song "786" was featured by Up Here Magazine. They included it in a special list of Inuktitut music for Nunavut Music Week.
More Contest Wins
In 2018, Becky won first place in another contest. This one was for the best original song or poem in Inuktitut. It was held by the Qikiqtani Inuit Association. Becky's winning song was called "Nagligigakkit", which means "because I love you". She also placed third in the 2019 QIA contest.
Publishing a Children's Book
In 2021, Becky Han published a picture book called The Bee. This book was based on her award-winning song "Qaariaq". It's a great way to share her music in a new form!
