Arabella Jane Duffy, also known as Bella, was born in Ireland in 1849. She spent most of her life in Florence, Italy.
Her Friendships
In 1878, Bella met Vernon Lee, who became a lifelong friend. Vernon Lee was also a writer. Another writer, Eugene Lee-Hamilton, also became her friend. Both Vernon Lee and Eugene Lee-Hamilton dedicated books to Bella.
Her Work
Bella Duffy was known for her non-fiction writing. She also worked as a translator, which means she changed books from one language to another. She wrote one fiction novel too. While living in Italy, Bella worked hard to protect old, important buildings.
Later Life
Bella Duffy passed away in London in 1926.
