Bellman's Union Church is a special historic church in Mohrsville, Pennsylvania. It is a place where two different church groups have shared a home for a very long time. The older church building here is so important that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

A Long History

The two church groups, Lutheran and United Church of Christ, started meeting together way back in 1746. They first shared a simple log cabin for their separate services. That first log cabin is no longer standing today. However, you can still see the outline of its foundation on the church grounds.

The Old Belleman's Church (Built 1814)

The second church building on this site was built in 1814. People often call it the Old Belleman's Church. This building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Even though it does not have modern electricity or plumbing, this church is very special. It was built in the Georgian style. This style includes many beautiful details not often seen in country churches from the 1800s.

The church has fancy decorations like an elaborate cornice, which is a decorative molding at the top of a wall. It also features special windows called Palladian windows and arched windows. The doorways are very detailed, and there is a gallery inside. Two important features are the unique wineglass pulpit and an old hand-pump organ.

The old church building is still used several times a year. It hosts Sunday services, weddings, and annual "Hymn Sings" during the warmer months. There is also a service held in the Pennsylvania German dialect.

The Newer Church (Built 1924)

A third church building was constructed on the property in 1924. Since 2003, the two church groups have shared a pastor. They now hold services together. They also share a choir, different committees, and youth groups. Even with these shared activities, both groups still keep their own separate identities.

Community Activities

Bellman's Union Church is also home to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 154. This troop is from Dauberville, Pennsylvania.
