Beltrán de la Cueva y Toledo, the 3rd Duke of Alburquerque, was an important Spanish nobleman and military leader. He was born around 1478 and passed away on February 11, 1560.

He was born in Cuéllar, a town in Spain. His father was Francisco Fernández de la Cueva, 2nd Duke of Alburquerque, and his mother was Francisca de Toledo.

Beltrán de la Cueva held many important positions during his life. He became a top leader in the Spanish Army, known as a captain general. He also led the English Army in France under Queen Mary I of England.

In 1531, he was honored as a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece. This was a very special award given to important people.

He also served as a Viceroy in different parts of Spain. A Viceroy was like a governor who ruled a region in the name of the king or queen.

  • From 1535 to 1539, he was the Viceroy of Aragon.
  • From 1552 until his death in 1560, he was the Viceroy of Navarre.
