Benoît de Sainte-Maure wrote a very long poem called Le Roman de Troie. This means "The Romance of Troy." He wrote it between 1155 and 1160. The poem is about the famous Trojan War. This was a huge war from ancient Greek myths.
Benoît's poem helped start a new type of literature. These stories were often called roman antique. They retold ancient stories in a new way. The Trojan War stories were part of what was known as the "Matter of Troy."
