Bernard Guignedoux (born January 31, 1947 – died January 1, 2021) was a French professional football player and manager. He is famous for scoring the very first goal in the history of the well-known club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Playing Career
Bernard Guignedoux started his football journey at the RC Paris youth academy. He played one season with their senior team in the second division of French football. In 1966, he joined Stade Saint-Germain, where he played in the third division while also continuing his studies.
In 1970, something big happened: Stade Saint-Germain joined forces with Paris FC to create a brand new club called Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). This meant Guignedoux became one of the first players for this new team.

Guignedoux played in PSG's very first game on August 23, 1970. It was a league match against Poitiers, and it ended in a 1–1 draw. In that game, he made history by scoring PSG's first-ever goal! He kicked a free-kick right into the top-left corner of the net.
In an interview years later, Guignedoux said his favorite memory from his time at PSG was when the team got promoted to the top division (called Division 1) in 1971. He remembered the amazing excitement and how the team was built with a mix of experienced players and young talents. He called it a "fabulous year." Guignedoux's last game for PSG was on May 27, 1972, a 1–0 loss to Angers.
In 1972, Paris Saint-Germain actually split into two separate clubs. Paris FC stayed in the top division, while PSG was moved down to the third division with mostly reserve players. Since Guignedoux had a professional contract, he joined Paris FC and left PSG. Two years later, in 1974, he moved to Monaco, another team playing in the top division.
After playing for Monaco for three seasons, Guignedoux returned to Paris FC. He played there for three more years before he stopped playing professionally in 1980, when he was 33 years old.
After Playing Football
Even after he stopped playing, Bernard Guignedoux stayed involved in football. First, in 1980, he became a physiotherapist (someone who helps players recover from injuries) for his old club, Paris FC. He then worked briefly as a P.E. teacher.
In 1981, Guignedoux became a coach for the Paris Saint-Germain C team, which is like a reserve or development team. He coached them for eleven years! After that, he became the coach for PSG's under-15 (U15) team for seven years. He then went back to coaching the PSG C team in 1999.
Guignedoux also worked in PSG's youth system, helping young players develop their skills. In 2003, he became an assistant manager for Strasbourg, working with manager Antoine Kombouaré. A year later, he became a scout for Strasbourg's youth academy, looking for new talented players.
In 2005, Guignedoux joined Valenciennes as an assistant manager, again working with Antoine Kombouaré. In their first season there, Valenciennes won the second division league title and got promoted! From 2009 to 2012, Guignedoux worked as a technical director for the amateur teams at Paris Saint-Germain.
On December 16, 2012, Bernard Guignedoux had a special moment. He presented a trophy to Ezequiel Lavezzi, who had just scored the 3,000th goal in PSG's history. It was a cool moment because Guignedoux was the one who scored the very first goal for the club back in 1970!
Later Life and Passing
In April 2020, at 73 years old, Bernard Guignedoux was hospitalized because of a serious illness. His health got worse, and he sadly passed away on January 1, 2021, at the age of 73.
