The Bernheim House is a beautiful old home in eastern Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. It was built in 1912. This house is one of the best examples of Colonial Revival architecture in the city. This style brings back the look of homes from the American colonial period.
The house has many special features. These include a Palladian arch, which is a big arch supported by columns. It also has a two-story entrance portico, which is like a covered porch at the front door. You can also see many pilasters, which are flat columns attached to the walls. A cornice with dentilling is also visible. This is a decorative molding with small, tooth-like blocks. The house sits on top of a hill on a large piece of land. This makes it stand out in the area. It is the oldest house in its neighborhood. The house is built with brick and stucco, and it has wooden parts.
History of the Bernheim House
The Bernheim House was built for Morris and Delia Bernheim in 1912. They chose a large, open piece of land for their new home. This land was about 13 acres in size. Morris Bernheim was a successful businessman. He owned a factory that made conveyor belts.
In the 1920s, Morris decided to divide his large property. He created two new housing areas. Most of the homes built in these new areas were in the Tudor Revival style. This style looks like old English Tudor homes. The Bernheim House, with its Colonial Revival style, looked very different from these newer homes. This made the Bernheim House even more unique in the neighborhood.
A Special Historic Home
Because of its unique and important design, the Bernheim House was recognized as a historic place. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The National Register is a list of places in the United States that are important to history. Being on this list helps protect the house and its special features for the future.
