Berwick, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Berwick is a small, unincorporated community in eastern Newton County, Missouri, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

Where is Berwick?

This community is located near a stream called Clear Creek. It sits in the flat area next to the creek, which is sometimes called a floodplain. South of the creek, you can find the Berwick cemetery and a church on a small hill. Important roads are also nearby. Missouri Route JJ is about half a mile to the east, and U.S. Route 60 passes about one mile south of Berwick.

A Glimpse into Berwick's History

Imagine a time when letters were the main way to communicate! Berwick had its own post office. It opened in 1892, helping people send and receive mail. However, the post office eventually closed in 1908. The community got its name from a local country store owner. He was an important person in the area, and the community was named after him.
