Betty Rose Wishart taught piano, music theory, and composition from 1972 to 1973. In 1973, she joined Argo Classical Records. She began composing music in 1974. At first, she used the name B. R. Wishart to hide that she was a woman. In 2008, she became the president of the Southeastern Composers' League.
