Beverlei Brown facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Beverlei Brown is a talented British singer known for her R&B and soul music. She learned to sing from her mother, who was part of their church choir in Birmingham, England. As she grew up, Beverlei joined the choir herself and eventually became its leader.

Her singing journey began to take off when she performed a solo with the famous gospel group, the Clark Sisters, at their concert in the UK. This led to a big opportunity with the band Fine Young Cannibals. They needed gospel singers for a new album, and Beverlei joined them. Her work helped the band get a record deal, and she even went on their worldwide tour!

After the tour, Beverlei returned to Birmingham to finish school. She worked for a while as a receptionist. Soon after, she joined singer Ruby Turner on a two-year tour. Beverlei's reputation as a singer grew quickly. She had the chance to work with many well-known artists like Simply Red, Snap!, Joe Cocker, the Brand New Heavies, Babyface, and Chaka Khan.

First Album and Success

In 1996, Beverlei got the chance to record her own song called "On and On." This song became popular in UK clubs. She recorded an album, but it was not released because the record company closed down.

Two years later, Dome Records offered her a deal. This meant she moved to London and spent many hours in the studio. Beverlei helped write six songs on her first album, called Next to You. One special song was a duet called "Could Be You," which she recorded with Dennis Taylor. Her album was very popular in Japan, and the UK version had three extra songs.

Music in the 2000s

In the early 2000s, Beverlei Brown recorded several songs. These included "Part Time Lover," "Tell Me," and "Somebody Knows How You Feel." These songs were played on radio shows, like Trevor Nelson's Rhythm Nation on BBC Radio 1. "Somebody Knows How You Feel" even reached number 96 on the UK Singles Chart.

Collaborations and Eurovision

Beverlei also sang with Justin Hawkins on two songs for his band Hot Leg's album, Red Light Fever. She sang a duet called "Ashamed" and provided extra vocals on another song called "Cocktails."

In 2003, she was the lead singer on the Full Flava's song "Love Holds No Limit." This song was part of their album, Colour of My Soul.

A notable moment came in 2007 when Beverlei sang a duet with Justin Hawkins again. They performed "Making Your Mind Up" on the BBC. They hoped to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest that year.

Beverlei continued to work on new music with Justin Hawkins and Alan Glass, among other talented people.
