Discovering the Bicycle Club Building's Past
You can find the old Bicycle Club Building in downtown Springfield. It's on Worthington Street, across from Stearns Square. This building is four stories tall. It shares a wall with the Wells Block next door.
What Does the Building Look Like?
The first floor has five sections with cool pillars. Above them is a decorative pattern. The main entrance and a shop entrance are tucked into the right side. The second and third floors have four sections each. They have fancy panels above the windows and decorated columns on the sides. The top floor has a big, rounded arch. A metal ledge sticks out from the top of the building.
The Springfield Bicycle Club's Home
The building was built in 1891 just for the Springfield Bicycle Club. The first floor, which was a shop, has changed a lot over the years. But the upper floors still look much like they did originally. The club rented out the first floor to a bicycle shop. Their own offices and a library were on the second floor. The third floor had a fun game room. The very top floor was a gym for exercise!
After cars became popular, the bicycle club became less active. The building has been used for many different things since then. It was fixed up in 1981.
