The Mystery of Bill Bergson
This story takes place one year after Bill Bergson's last big adventure. It's summer again, and the fun "war" between two groups continues. These groups are the "Red Rose" and the "White Rose."
The White Rose's Discovery
The "White Rose" team includes Kalle, Anders, and Eva-Lotta. They are walking by the river when they see an old man named Mr. Gren. Eva-Lotta mentions that Mr. Gren is known for lending money in a way that isn't very nice.
The friends then head to "Prärien," a special place outside their town, Lillköping. There's an old mansion from the 18th century there. The "Red Rose" team has made this mansion their secret headquarters.
A Kidnapping and a Secret Meeting
During their "war" games, the "Red Rose" team captures Anders. They also lock Kalle and Eva-Lotta inside the mansion. Meanwhile, the "Red Rose" (Sixten, Benka, and Jonte) question Anders in Jonte's room.
Mr. Gren lives in the house across from Jonte's. Kalle and Eva-Lotta escape and climb onto the roof. From there, they watch what's happening. Eva-Lotta sees a man in green pants visiting Mr. Gren. She hears them plan to meet again and that Mr. Gren will bring some important papers.
A Shocking Discovery
The "Red Rose" team tries to make Anders tell them where their secret treasure, Stormumriken, is hidden. But Anders manages to escape! Later, Eva-Lotta is sent to the mansion to get Stormumriken.
While there, she sees Mr. Gren and the man in the green pants again. As the man leaves, Eva-Lotta accidentally bumps into him. He drops a paper, which she picks up. It's a special paper that shows someone owes money.
A Frightening Find
Soon after, Eva-Lotta finds Mr. Gren. Something terrible has happened to him. Scared, she runs home. The police arrive and block off the area around the mansion. They talk to Eva-Lotta, who tells them what she saw.
The police realize that the name of the person who hurt Mr. Gren might be on the paper Eva-Lotta found. But she can't remember what she did with it!
The Poisoned Candy
Newspapers report on the sad event, and one even prints Eva-Lotta's name. People start sending her lots of candy and chocolate. The "White Rose" team eats too much of it. They decide to save one chocolate bar for later.
Anders is given a mission to hide Stormumriken in a globe in Sixten's room. Sixten's dog, Beppo, barks happily at Anders. To quiet him, Anders gives Beppo the chocolate bar he was saving.
A Dangerous Clue
The next day, Beppo and even Anders feel sick. Kalle suspects the chocolate might be poisoned. He performs a special test and discovers that the chocolate contains a dangerous poison. He realizes the chocolate must have been sent by the bad guy.
Kalle and Anders tell the police about the poisoned chocolate. But it doesn't help much because Eva-Lotta had already thrown away the letter that came with the candy.
The Final Confrontation
A few days later, the "White Rose" team is on a "treasure hunt" at the mansion. They are looking for a map that the "Red Rose" team hid. Kalle and Anders go to look at the place where Mr. Gren was found.
Meanwhile, the bad guy, who has changed his appearance, enters the house where Eva-Lotta is alone. She doesn't recognize him at first. She tells him they are looking for a paper, which makes him worried that they might have found the important paper he dropped earlier.
The Robber Language Saves the Day
Eva-Lotta then sees a tattoo on the man's hand. She suddenly recognizes him! Using the secret "Robber Language," she tells Kalle and Anders that he is the person who hurt Mr. Gren.
The bad guy pulls out a gun and forces them to find the paper and show it to him. When he takes it and starts reading, the kids bravely attack him! They throw the gun out the window and lock him inside.
But he manages to jump out, find his gun, and tries to get back at them. Luckily, the police arrive! He runs to his car, but the tires have been cut. He throws the gun into a small lake before the police catch him.
The Truth Comes Out
At first, the bad guy denies everything. But then, the proof starts to appear. Benka, who collects stamps, has the letter that came with the poisoned chocolate. Finally, Eva-Lotta finds the important paper in her pocket! With all the evidence, the bad guy has to confess.
