Location of Birome in the state of Texas

Birome is a small, unincorporated community located in south central Hill County, Texas, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county. Birome is about fifteen miles south of Hillsboro, right where Farm to Market Road 308 meets County Road 3238.

History of Birome

Birome was started in 1910. This happened when a railroad line, the International-Great Northern Railroad, was built and reached this spot. The community's name is quite interesting! It's a "portmanteau," which means it's a new word made by blending parts of two other words. In this case, "Birome" comes from the names Bickham and Jerome Cartwright. These two brothers owned the land where the community was first built.

Life in Birome

In the year 2000, it was estimated that about thirty-one people lived in Birome. For students living in the area, they attend school in the nearby town of Penelope. This school is part of the Penelope Independent School District.
