Björn's Guitar Gear
Björn Gelotte uses specific guitars and equipment to create his sound.
Guitars and Pickups
He often uses a Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar. He also has a special custom shop Les Paul. Both of these guitars have EMG 81 and EMG 85 active pickups. These pickups help make the guitar sound powerful. His custom shop Les Paul has unique details, like special inlays.
In 2015, the company Epiphone released a special Björn Gelotte signature guitar. It is a limited edition Les Paul Custom. This guitar has a mahogany body and neck. It also has an ebony fretboard with pearl block inlays. The guitar has a shiny ebony finish and gold parts. It features a thicker neck and high-quality parts like Grover tuning machines. It also has the same EMG 81 and 85 active pickups. The headstock of this guitar has a cool design of the In Flames "jester head" logo.
Guitar Tuning
For In Flames' early albums, Björn and Jesper Strömblad tuned their guitars to C standard. This is a specific way to tune the strings. From the album Colony to Reroute to Remain, they started using Drop A# tuning for some songs. Since the album Soundtrack to Your Escape, In Flames has mostly used Drop A# tuning. One exception is the song "Transparent" from Reroute to Remain, where they used Drop G tuning.
Amplifiers and Effects
Björn uses different amplifiers to make his guitar sound loud and clear. Some of the amps he uses include Marshall JVM 410H, Peavey 5150, EVH 5150 III, and Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier. For effects, he uses Line 6 equipment, like the POD XT.
Other Gear
He uses special Dunlop custom strings. These strings are coated because Björn is allergic to nickel. He also uses Dunlop .88 MM Tortex picks and Dunlop Ultex Sharp Picks.
