A Look at Its History
The very first part of the Black Horse Inn was built way back in 1744. Imagine, that was even before the United States became a country! This original section was made of stone and covered with stucco. It had two and a half stories.
Later, more parts were added to the building. In 1833, a three-story section was built on the north side. Also in 1833, a porch was added to the front and sides. Between 1880 and 1908, three more small additions were made to the back. These changes helped the inn grow over the years.
Its Special Style
The Black Horse Inn is built in the Federal style. This was a popular building style in the United States from about 1780 to 1830. Buildings in this style often look balanced and simple, with neat lines.
A Recognized Landmark
