History of Black Walnut

The area known as Black Walnut got its name from the many black walnut trees that grew there. These trees were common near where the community first started.

A post office was opened in Black Walnut in 1875. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years before it closed down in 1908.
