Blake Baxter, born in 1963, is an American musician known for his electronic dance music, especially techno. He was an important part of the first wave of Detroit techno music. Many people consider him a very talented but sometimes overlooked artist from that early Detroit music scene.

Blake Baxter's Musical Journey

Blake Baxter started mixing records in the mid-1980s in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan. His first music releases were recorded in Chicago. These songs were later remixed and released in Detroit by KMS Records.

Early Releases and Collaborations

Baxter also released music with the Underground Resistance label. One of his well-known releases was an EP called The Prince of Techno. This came out on vinyl in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Some of his songs were also featured on a famous music collection called Techno! The New Dance Sound of Detroit. Between 1989 and 1992, he released several records with Incognito Records.

Touring and New Ventures

While touring in Berlin, Germany, Blake Baxter released more music. He put out a track called One More Time on Tresor Records. He also released Brothers Gonna Work it Out on Logic Records. This song was inspired by an older track from 1973. After returning to Detroit, Baxter started his own music labels, Mix Records and Phat Joint. He also opened a record store in downtown Detroit called Save the Vinyl, which operated from 1992 to 1999.
