Blake Baxter (born 1963) is an American techno musician. He is known for being part of the first group of artists who created Detroit techno music. Many people think he is one of the most important, but sometimes overlooked, figures from the early Detroit techno scene.
Blake Baxter's Early Life and Music
Blake Baxter was born in Detroit, Michigan, in the United States. He started mixing music in the mid-1980s. Some of his first songs were recorded in Chicago. Later, these songs were remixed and released in Detroit by KMS Records.
He also released music with the Underground Resistance label. This included an EP (a short album) called The Prince of Techno in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Some of his songs were also featured on a famous music collection called Techno! The New Dance Sound of Detroit. Around 1989 to 1992, he released three more records with Incognito Records.
Touring and New Ventures
While touring in Germany, Blake Baxter released more music. He put out One More Time on Tresor Records in Berlin. He also released Brothers Gonna Work it Out on Logic Records in Frankfurt. This song was inspired by an older track from 1973.
After returning to Detroit, Blake Baxter started his own music labels. These were called Mix Records and Phat Joint. He also opened a record store in downtown Detroit. The store was named Save the Vinyl and was open from 1992 to 1999.
