Blanca Álvarez González (born September 8, 1957, in Cartavio, Spain – died February 14, 2021, in Oviedo, Spain) was a talented Spanish journalist, writer, and poet. She wrote many different kinds of books, including poetry, novels, and essays. She was especially known for her wonderful stories for children and young adults.

Awards and Recognition

Blanca Álvarez González received many important awards for her writing. These awards show how much her work was valued by readers and critics.

• She won the Cálamo International Poetry Prize.
• In 2001, her book Milú, un perro en desgracia (Milú, a Dog in Disgrace) received the prestigious White Ravens award. This award recognizes excellent children's and youth literature from around the world.
• In 2002, she won the 13th Ala Delta Prize for her book Caracoles, pendientes y mariposas (Snails, Earrings and Butterflies).
• In 2004, the National Libraries of Venezuela chose her book El puente de los cerezos (The Cherry Tree Bridge) as the best book published in Spanish.
• She also received the Critics' Prize of Asturias in 2004.
• In 2005, she was honored with the Destino Infantil Apel-les Mestres Award.
