History of Blessing Bethlehem

How the Program Started
The idea for Blessing Bethlehem began earlier. In September 2012, a program called the Food Voucher Program started. It was a partnership between Ohr Torah Stone's Center for Jewish–Christian Understanding and Cooperation (CJCUC) and Pastor Steven Khoury of Holy Land Missions. Their goal was to help the Christian community in Bethlehem.
Understanding the Need
David Nekrutman is the Executive Director of CJCUC. He started talking with the local Christian Arab community in 2009. He did this through the organization's Bible Study Program. Mr. Nekrutman learned that many Christian Arabs faced challenges. They struggled with their identity and their faith. He also found that poverty was a big problem for them. He wanted to help solve this issue.
Growing the Support
The Food Voucher Program first received money from Jewish donors in America. It worked by buying food vouchers from the Rami Levy supermarket chain. These vouchers were then given to families in need.
In 2013, another group joined the effort. The International Christian Embassy of Jerusalem (ICEJ) became part of the program. This helped the program grow even more.
Becoming Blessing Bethlehem
By 2016, the Food Voucher Program had grown. It was then given a new name: "Blessing Bethlehem." The official launch of Blessing Bethlehem happened at the LifeLight Music Festival in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This event helped share the program's mission with more people.
