Blondin Park facts for kids
Blondin Park is a cool public park in Northfields, which is part of the London Borough of Ealing. It's pretty big, about 8.5-hectare (21-acre)! The park has special areas where people can grow plants (these are called allotments) and also fields for playing sports.
Ealing Council owns the park, and they work with a group called the Friends of Blondin Park to take care of it. A part of the park, about 2.3 ha (5.7 acres), is a special Local Nature Reserve. This means it's a protected area for nature, full of interesting plants and animals. It's also known as a "Site of Local Importance for Nature Conservation."
Park History
This park became a public space in 1928. Back then, it was called Northfields Recreation Ground. Later, in 1957, its name was changed to Blondin Park. It was named after a famous person named Charles Blondin, who used to live nearby in a house called Niagara House. The special nature area within the park was created much later, in 1997.
Nature and Wildlife
The nature reserve part of Blondin Park is home to many different types of plants and animals. You can find a beautiful wildflower meadow there, which is like a field full of colorful wild flowers. There's also a pond where you can see wetland plants that love water. Some of these plants include things like lesser pond-sedge, sharp-flowered rush, and greater spearwort. It's a great place to explore and learn about local wildlife!
