The Blue Man-i'-th'-Moss is a very old standing stone found in the beautiful North York Moors in northern England. It stands on a place called Wheeldale Moor, right along the path of a famous long-distance walk known as the Lyke Wake Walk.
What is the Blue Man-i'-th'-Moss?
This stone is officially a boundary stone. This means it helps mark the edge of a parish, which is like a local area or district. People believe this stone has been standing for a very long time, even before the Romans came to Britain!
How Big and Old is the Stone?
The Blue Man-i'-th'-Moss stands about 2 metres (6.6 ft) tall, which is taller than most people. Around its base, you can see small boulders and other stones placed in the ground. The stone itself looks very old because it has been worn down by the weather over many, many years.
What Does it Look Like?
If you look closely, you might still see tiny bits of blue paint on the stone. Long ago, the entire stone was covered in blue paint, which is how it got its name. On its south side, there is a letter 'E' and the date 1841 carved into the stone. In 2003, a special memorial plaque was placed at the bottom of the stone. However, this plaque was later removed in 2016.
