Robert Andrew "Bob" Kohler (born May 17, 1926 – died December 5, 2007) was an important person who worked for equal rights for all people. He was born and grew up in Queens, New York. Bob Kohler spent his whole life as an activist in New York City, fighting for what he believed was right.

Life of Bob Kohler

Bob Kohler served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was part of the war efforts in the South Pacific. After the war, he managed a place called Club Baths in New York. He also helped many new Black artists get started in their careers. Bob Kohler owned and ran a popular store called The Loft on Christopher Street.

Bob Kohler's Activism

Bob Kohler is well-known for his part in the Stonewall riots. These events were a big moment for people fighting for equal rights. He was also involved early on with the Gay Liberation Front. This group worked to make sure all people were treated fairly.

Bob Kohler was active in many other important groups too. He worked with the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), which fought for civil rights for Black Americans. He also supported the Black Panther Party. Bob Kohler joined Act Up, a group that worked to help people with AIDS. He was also part of the New York City AIDS Housing Network (NYCAHN). This group helped people with AIDS find homes. He also supported animal rights groups and FIERCE!, a youth organization.

Later Years and Death

Bob Kohler lived in an apartment on Charles Street in the West Village for 45 years. He passed away from lung cancer on December 5, 2007. He was 81 years old.
